Here’s a cute little picture of some flowers in front of a shrub. Check out the electrical box beside it on the left. Part of the urban landscape. I like the little clump of flowers. I think they are beautiful. I also like how the shrub adds something behind the flower to cover up the fact that this was taken in a local subdivision. The shrub also adds a patterned or textured background.

Here are some black eyed susans with some white flowers scattered around it. This illustrates the use of shapes and texture or repetition to compose a photograph. The small white flowers surrounding the black eyed susans repeat to form a texture. The yellow flowers to the right form an imaginary smooth arc, guiding the eye around the photograph.

Textures can play a role in composition. I happen to like the texture of the large, brighter stone in the middle near the bottom of the wall. I like the way it looks like it was chiseled and shaped. I like the curves of the indentations. It just caught my eye and I personally like it.

This is some hostas flowers I found. The smooth arc of the plant stems gently guides the eye in the picture. The diagonal line of the wall more actively keeps the eye on the image. The intersection point between the wall and the flower stems makes a resting place for the eye.
