Pictures from a cheapy digital camera I bought for $8.88
This is a Golden Hawk Sabre Jet. I basically photographed this one with the jet off center to the left. This leaves some open space in front of the plane giving the impression of flying off in the distance.
Here’s an old dam. They say it used to have a grist mill on it. The opening in the dam is offset slightly from the center giving it more interest. The tree to the right and the other remains of the dam on the left frame the image at the sides. Roughly rule of thirds for the sky.
A rock garden with a huge rock. The rock and cluster of plants to the right are about the same size and draw the eye roughly the same amount. This makes the photograph balanced. I happen to like the horizontal lines in the texture on the rock. A little splash of color the the left. A little bit of another rock on the right to frame the photograph.
This is actually sitting in someone’s front yard near the street. The fungus at the bottom of the photograph adds a wide horizontal line, giving the image stability. Since it’s the largest one on the stump, it also becomes the main subject matter. Unless you like the stump better. The outline of the stump itself, provides the shape of a rectangle adding more stability to the image. The little fungus at the top adds something for your eye to jump to, guiding your eye around the photograph. Finally, the bark adds an interesting texture or repeating pattern to the image.
Here’s some pink flowers I found. Some blooming, some not. The vertical blooms rise at different angles leading your eye around the photograph. Also, the bottom two blooms form a v shape if you were to draw two intersecting lines along their length. This v shape is a geometric shape giving the photograph a stable appearance.
